From Spider Killer to Spood Mom. WTF 🤣

Imagine my surprise when I somehow became the proud owner of not one but TWO jumping spiders.
I’m officially a spood mom. It seems two isn’t enough because I already want another one. I think I have a problem.
How did this madness start You ask? Well, let me tell you.
Sometime during Covid, I came across a woman on social media who had a jumping spider. She was actually terrified of them herself. She started posting these adorable little videos with funny voice-overs giving these tiny creatures an entire personality.
It didn’t take long… I became obsessed with watching videos and learning everything I could about them.
For the next three or four years, I became a closet jumping spider enthusiast. Lurking in the shadows, watching videos of these adorable, eight-legged weirdos, desperately wanting one of my own.
There was just one problem… I was terrified of spiders!
And I was jealous! Here were all these people holding their little spoods, interacting with them, and having these adorable relationships, while I was sitting there, thinking… I want that… Followed immediately by… Oh hell, no…🤣
Whelp, in July, I took the plunge! I had someone build me a custom Scooby Doo themed enclosure and I brought home my first jumping spider, Juice. She’s a beautiful girl and I’m absolutely smitten.
Then came Rukus. This little guy has some of the most gorgeous chelicerae I’ve ever seen. They are this incredible metallic green that fades into metallic blue. He seriously is a handsome little bastard.
And of course he needs his own Scooby Doo themed enclosure as well.
You’d think after years of dreaming about having these guys I’d be holding them and living my best spider Mom Life.
Yeah… About that…
I still haven’t technically managed to actually hold one.
I did get Juice to crawl on me once. ONCE.
She immediately jumped off, ran back and into her enclosure, and started cleaning her feet like she just stepped in dog shit 🤨. I was offended.
Excuse me, ma’am?!
Then there’s Rukus. This little asshole was practically doing backflips trying to get off of my hand. And the second he got into his enclosure? Yep. Started grooming himself like he just survived some traumatic encounter with a filthy human. Dude I washed my hands.
So how about this for a conundrum… I’ve spent my entire life thinking spiders were disgusting and I’ve now discovered that spiders think I’m disgusting! The irony is not lost on me 🤣
The really cool part, though… Within a day of arriving, both of them had built their little silk hummocks and molted. That means they’re happy and they like their digs. They both are doing very well and I couldn’t be happier watching them grow and do their weird little spider shit. Watching them sleep is quite enlightening. They dream… I’ve seen them twitch… Like they’re running… It was funny and I need to capture it on video.
I never imagine I would become a person who’s excited about finding a discarded spider exoskeleton either, but here I am. 🤷♀️🤣
I’m already thinking about getting a third. And possibly a fourth.
I went from squishing spiders on site to decorating their homes, admiring their little faces, and worrying about whether they’re comfortable.
Who have I become?
Apparently, I’m a spood mom now.
I’m loving every minute of this weird ass addiction
Even if my own spiders think I’m gross ✌️🤣
