Always moving

So it’s crazy I was thinking the other day how when I wasn’t younger all I wanted to do was be adult and do whatever I wanted.. when I was younger I was always on the move placing with friends then as a teenager running around with my friends.. in my 20 hanging at the bar more than at home.. I got married then it was the kids and their events.. always on the move just like I wanted to be.. then the kids leave home and it’s just me.

Fun thing now it most days I want the quiet. I don’t want to go running around all day. I suddenly want to enjoy the more quiet moments. I suddenly appreciate those moments more.. yes I had amazing times in my life but I also wonder what amazing quiet moments did I miss when I was running around all the time.

So the question is am I the only one who wonders what little quiet moments they missed thru life or is it just me?

I actually don’t. However, I do tend to think back on all those times on the move where really cool shit happened.

In my twenties into my early thirties I was on the move constantly. Because of my restless, un-anchored life at the time, I was lucky enough to be a professional stage carpenter, a photographer, a roadie for a stage house, and a musician. Those different jobs put me in position to meet Hal Holbrook at the Barter Theater, work with John Prine, Steppenwolf, and the Glen Miller Orchestra all at the Paramount in Bristol, TN. I met Dave Matthews, Sissy Spacek, and Howie Long through my time in the band. I got to explore a lot of little podunk towns from Ohio to Georgia as a photographer.

Now I’m older and those memories keep me company when I begin to think my life is boring. I love the little quiet moments now, because they allow me to look back and smile.

I think that happens to a lot of us as we get older. When we're young, we can't wait for the next adventure. Now, a quiet afternoon with nothing on the calendar feels like winning the lottery.

And you're right, I sometimes wonder what I missed while I was so busy trying not to miss anything.

Funny how we spend the first half of our lives looking for excitement and the second half hoping nobody rings the doorbell.

There's something to be said for finally appreciating the peace and quiet. Took me long enough to figure that out!

I say I’m right there with you, Chris. Although I spent most of my life trying to stay in the shadows, and I was always the one you found in the corner at family events. I’ve always liked the idea of celebrating and parties and get togethers, but when it comes down to actually socializing, I want nothing to do with it. It makes no sense. 🤣
My ex-husband and I did everything together and we were together 28 years. So when that ended, I felt like I was 20 years old again trying to figure Life out. I didn’t even know how to get the electricity on at my new apartment. At first, I hated being alone. But after about six months, I found myself realizing that my own company was quite nice and I preferred it over most.

The quiet is amazing now and the few friends are have are more meaningful then the ones I have back with people in my 20’s.. crazy how that happens over time
