The Fine Art of Not Giving a Damn

I wish somebody had explained this to me about thirty years ago. Would've saved me a few arguments, several headaches, and at least one spectacularly stupid Facebook exchange.
When you're young, everything feels important. Every opinion needs defending. Every misunderstanding needs correcting. Every idiot needs an explanation.
Then you get older and realize some people are perfectly happy being wrong, and you're under no obligation to interrupt their enjoyment.
That's not giving up. That's learning to spend your energy where it matters.
I've also learned that being right doesn't always make me wise. Sometimes the smartest thing I've said all day is absolutely nothing.
These days, I'm trying to save my enthusiasm for people I love, things I enjoy, and problems I might actually solve.
The rest?
Well, somebody else is welcome to that argument.
I've got coffee getting cold.
